About Keela

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Current Age: 10 Years 2 Months (best estimate)
  • Fence Required: Yes

Keela is a playful 18 month old red doberman girl! She is a petite girl, who is good with everything, little and big dogs, cats and birds!

Keela loves to play and will need a companion animal in her home who is willing to play with her! She has taken correction well from the resident dogs in her foster home, but she will also need an obedience class. She is a typical doberteen, she knows what you want but prefers to do her own thing!

Keela will need a home with a fenced in yard and no kids under 12 years old please!

Update:

She is a bouncy, playful, healthy girl. During Keela's surgery, she had some oozing of blood and it was suspected that she has von Willebrands. We sent off the genetic test to Vetgen to determine her vWD status. Her test came back as affected. This simply means that Keela will be more likely to bleed longer than other dogs in similar situations. Or not. This is certainly not a death sentence. Many Dobermans are affected by vWD. They live long and healthy lives. More care needs to be paid attention if a nail is quicked while trimming, or the dog gets scratched to make sure bleeding stops in a timely manner. That is all. There are so many facets of what will make her more likely to bleed. Stress, illness, heartworm infestation, or low thyroid. In all of the research we have done, dogs that test affected for vWD are more likely to be hypothyroid.  We sent a complete panel off to Michigan State to determine the status of her thyroid function. She tested borderline low normal. We will be giving her low dose thyroid medication to determine how she responds. If we see no real difference in her then the medication will be stopped and we ensure she is retested every year to monitor her thyroid function.
